Louisville, KY (USA), Monday April 7th, 2008 - The 2008 Season kick off for the Texas Roadhouse Cycling Team was a huge success. On Saturday April 5th team members came together for an orientation breakfast followed by the kick off team meeting.
All matters of business were discussed during the meeting including rider education for each of the teams partners as well as distribution of Santini clothing. When business concluded it was time to ride. A fun three hour training ride was briefly interrupted by a video shoot. During the video shoot both team and individual rider shots were taken.
And of course the day would not have been complete without a team dinner at the flagship Texas Roadhouse Restaurant located just outside the front door of the Texas Roadhouse corporate offices in Louisville, KY.
On Sunday April 6th eleven members of the Texas Roadhouse Cycling team jumped in their vehicles and drove up to Vandervorts Corner, OH for a road race. With such a strong team in place Texas Roadhouse broke away early with six riders in an eight rider break. At the end of the 64 mile race the Roadhouse boys roll across finish line five riders deep, the win going to Louisville resident John Grant. Racing across the line with John were Paul Martin, Kirk Albers, Curtis Tolson and Dirk Pohlmann.
John had this to say after his win, “It was a fun race out there today... with two laps to go Curtis and Kirk made a move and it was just a matter of bridging up. I got some help from Paul bridging to Kirk and Curtis and from their I just rode it in.”
Additionally Tracy Tolson a Texas Roadhouse support rider out sprinted her two competitors in a three rider break to take another win in 2008.
Although the Texas Roadhouse Team will be competing in over 100 races this year the next big event for the team will be the US Crits Speedweek beginning April 26th running through May 4th. Speedweek is held throughout the South Eastern United States.
