Kirk Albers checks in from the Indiana State Road Race Championshp, June 7th, 2009

Joe Kukolla, Greg Strock, Rob Bush, Andrew Llewellyn, Johnathon Jacob, Sean Steele, John Puffer and myself (Kirk Albers) at the Indiana State Road Race (88 miles) in Fishers, IN.

The race started off quick, Texas Roadhouse were very aggressive, didn't take long for Jon Jacob to get a gap with two other riders.  Unfortunately, the first trip over the rough section of road claimed Joe Kukolla, later in the race Andrew Llewellyn punctured as well.

The gap to the three oscillated for much of the first two thirds of the race, never gaining more than 60 seconds.  Greg Strock made into the next escape of seven, which also didn't gain much ground before Greg went solo.  The gap shot up after the peleton was delayed in passing another large field on course, and the odds weren't good for Greg in front group of seven, consequently Rob, Johnathan, and myself took turns ramping up the pace to reduce the gap.

At 1.5 laps to go, the junction was made to the chasers with just Greg Strock away solo and one rider in "no man's land" between us.  Riders from the Nuvo and Zipp teams combined to bring the diminished bunch back up to Strock with under two miles to go, setting the stage for a likely sprint finish.

Rob Bush tried his hand at an escape with one mile to go, but it was altogether out of the last corner.  An early jump by a Zipp rider ramped up the speed, Albers then hit out with 250 meters to go, holding off all challengers.

The guys rode aggressive - bad luck for Joe and Andrew - good to see everyone riding hard.

1st Kirk Albers
6th Rob Bush
Top 20  Jonathan Jacobs and Greg Strock
(finish order outside top 15 was a bit suspect due to riders down a lap)
